Additional Director

Gopal Kumar Dey is Additional Director at IID and Head of ASER Bangladesh at IID and Director – Program & Research at ‘Light of Hope’. In his role at IID, Gopal is responsible for organizational development with a particular focus on standardizing organizational systems, manuals and standard operating procedures (SOP). In addition, in his role at ASER BD, he is responsible for creating and tracking the vision, mission and strategic planning of ASER Bangladesh.

Before rejoining IID, Gopal served as Senior Manager-Program, Research and M&E at Sesame Workshop Bangladesh –Sisimpur (country office of Sesame Workshop), the largest education brand in the world and also in Bangladesh. In his role, Gopal was responsible for leading the Program department as well as Research and Monitoring department. He has overseen several projects funded by USAID, MetLife Foundation, AO Foundation, University of Washington, and International Development Research Center (IDRC). Gopal also served as the Country Director of Sesame Workshop’s International project ‘Dream Save Do’ in Bangladesh. He has vested interest in research and education program design. His prime research interests includes future education, child research, and in-depth understanding of design, methods, ethics in child research. Other interests include information technologies for education including machine learning, artificial intelligence, and children’s learning process. He has a 9+ years of program and research experiences. His papers have been published locally and internationally. Originally from Jashore, Bangladesh Gopal holds a master’s degree in Development Studies from University of Dhaka, where he stood 1st with distinction.
