Ensuring equality in education through social accountability and advocacy

The Institute of Informatics and Development (IID) recently participated in a Learning Event hosted by Education Out Loud’s (EOL) Regional Management Unit (RMU) in Nagarkot, Nepal. The event, held from May 22 to May 26, provided a platform for IID and other EOL organisations to share their progress, lessons learned, and exchange valuable insights.

During the event, IID shared its progress and lessons learned from the implementation of its current education initiative, ‘e!quality’. The team outlined the significant progress it has made in advancing educational access, quality, and equity. They presented how IID has effectively implemented innovative strategies and interventions that have had a positive effect on marginalised communities by leveraging EOL’s support and resources.

Representatives from various organizations attended the event, and their presentations shed light on their respective education initiatives, providing a rich environment for learning and collaboration. This diverse group of grantees offered a platform for discussing challenges, exploring opportunities, and discovering best practises in the field of education.

Moreover, the Learning Event also hosted a 3-day Learning Exchange Workshop on Social Accountability and Advocacy, facilitated by PRIA (Participatory Research in Asia). During the workshop IID showcased its extensive experience and success in employing social accountability approaches over the years.

The CEO of IID, Syeed Ahamed, demonstrated how IID is utilizing youth to ensure social accountability and advocacy. By engaging young people in policy discussions and empowering them to become active contributors and rights holders in society, IID has fostered a culture of participation and inclusivity. IID upheld its commitment to youth empowerment, which has resulted in tangible outcomes, by promoting good governance and accountability in the education sector during the workshop.

Bringing together a group of six outstanding organizations, including the Institute of Informatics and Development (IID) and Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE) from Bangladesh, the Pakistan Coalition for Education (PCE) and Institute of Social and Policy Sciences (I-SAPS) from Pakistan, the Center for Youth Advocacy and Networking (CYAN) from the Philippines, and the National Campaign for Education (NCE) from Nepal, this learning event fostered a collaborative atmosphere and a shared dedication to improving education on a national and global scale.
